Triad Review
A game that is named as the most famous cracker group on the Commodore 64. Is the game up for it? Read more in this Triad Review.
The first screen really invites us to believe that this can be something. After hitting the fire button we are off to the first level. I’m presented with something to look like a deep space dimension. I’m directly attacked by the alien space ships and need to wipe them out or pay with my life.
It promises much until the game is on. It is really messy and I manage to get through the levels not really knowing how. The controls are blunt and give now fly sensation when playing.
The graphics are poor and flashy. And the colour picks are boring. The sound effects are what you can expect from a game giving that poor first impression.
This is a game that I hadn’t played but really had my hopes up for. And to be honest it is a disappointment and far from what I expected from a Live Wire title. My experiences with Grid Trap and Jumping Jack were really good, atleast as I remember it when playing them.
This is a game you can leave out from your bucket list of games to play. But bes sure to play other Live Wire titles.
In the Magazines
TRIAD COMES IN A BOX containing no end of instructions, feature listings and pictures of the game. I couldn’t wait to grab my joystick and start playing. On the box it said there was “3D total perspective graphics”, “Smooth multicolour graphics, music and sound effects. The game itself took a long time to load but I could wait! The description of the game was that the galactic merchants had constructed time routes in which they could travel.
Unfortunately, the Triads kept on attacking without warning. This is where your fleet of pilots come in. It is your job, firstly, to clear a patrol of Triads who advance on you at an alarming rate (on the easiest level) and, secondly, to clear a path through the meteors. Once both screens are accomplished, you see a merchant vessel disappear behind a planet and land safely, then you return back to the first screen again! The graphics on this game are not exactly the best, although the laser sight is quite good as it is shown in perspective as you move.

On the Covers
As you have read above I’m not very happy with the game itself. Partly because my expectations on a Live Wire title were set higher..
But one thing that meets Live Wire Standards is the game cover. It is really in the standards. I’ve come to like these covers as they are really full of action with vivid colours. The logotype really gives to impression of being in metal and the action below shows a space fight between us earthlings and the aliens.
And as always, the Live Wire logo fits into any cover, love it.
