Cover Upgrade
A cover upgrade is something that comes from time to time – some versions are changed because a second opinion may have arised from the first version being released. We can always speculate.
Are the changes always to the better? Let us have these recurring posts with several different titles that have gone through this process – we let you be the judge of it.
Lion Heart
This game is released on the Dragon 32/Tandy. The white cover is the newer one of them two. Firstly we see that the green background cover is fully painted while the other one is combined with photography. In my humble opinion the green background cover gives me the real feeling of th romantic period of the knights. I do not know if it has to do with me always reading the Spanish comic “El guerrero de antifaz” when I was a kid and that it fits very well into the style the characters were portrayed in.
The white background cover looks more like a screenshot from a futuristic movie like Mad Max – lunitics riding for glory and wealth. If we want to draw it further we could say, the same game but in two different time periods.
What are your thoughts on the re-design of the cover? I give it a thumbs down.

The plot of the game
Let us add a part desribing the plot of the game and see if our opinion changes?
Richard the Lionheart is building his forces for the Third Crusade and Prince John’s army is tracking you down. You will see lettered squares representing your crusaders – to collect a group,you move onto the square which they occupy by pressing the cursor keys. The higher lettered squares represent a greater number of men.
To proceed to the Holy Land, you need to leave England via the bottom right hand corner of the screen with at least 450 men. Some groups may be surrounded by dense forest, through which you cannot pass. Prince John’s army, however, destroy the forest as they home on you, and you can create a route to your trapped men by luring the prince’s forces onto the patches which are obstructing you.
You must not attract the prince’s forces onto a square occupied by the men you are seeking, as they will be destroyed. Prince John’s army will defeat you in battle if they occupy a square next to your own.
The enemy army will be exhausted when they destroy their tenth plot of forest, but a fresh army will emerge. You will be asked to choose a skill level -1 is the most difficult – and this will affect the speed at which Prince John’s army homes in on you. Your choice of skill level will also be taken into account when assessing your performance in the Holy Land
